- What is the best class for me if I'm new to Yoga?
If you are new to Yoga we encourage you to attend Beginner flow classes which will provide a solid foundation and equip you with the knowledge and experience to join any of our other classes. That said, the Vinyasa flow, Slow flow and Mellow flow classes are open to everyone and as various options will be offered.
- What do I need for my first class at Hot Dog Yoga?
We recommend you bring water and a towel for your first yoga class at HDY or buy some water / rent a towel at reception. Yoga mats are provided so you don't need to bring your own but you are welcome to if you prefer.
We recommend you arrive 15 minutes early to check in and familiarise yourself with the space and your teacher.
If possible, don’t have a large meal 2-3 hours before class and arrive well hydrated. Wear light clothing that will allow a full range of movement like leggings, shorts, crop tops and singlets.
- How do I book classes?
It is best to book online via our website or mobile app to avoid disappointment. Bookings for classes can be made up to a week in advance by clicking on the 'Sign Up' button next to the classes in the timetable. If the class is waitlist only, please do put yourself on the waiting list as spaces often come up and you will be notified.
- What happens if I can no longer make class?
We understand life happens. Please cancel at least 2 hours prior to class by logging into your account on our website or using the app. Cancellations may not be accepted via phone, email or social media.
If you “no show” or cancel within 2 hours of the class start time, you will be charged for the class as it may mean another student is unable to attend. Members and intro offer holders will have their booking privileges suspended if they miss/late cancel more than two classes in any week.
Please respect other students by only booking classes that you will attend.
- What happens if I'm running late?
Unfortunately you may find yourself locked out. We lock our yoga studio doors during class for the safety and security of our students. We try to start and end each class on time. We recommend getting to the studio at least 5 minutes before class starts so you can get on to the mat and ready to go!
- What are the benefits of doing yoga in a heated room?
Most of our yoga classes are practiced in a room heated between 28-35 degrees. The warm temperature stretches muscle fibres and tendons to help prevent injuries as you work out. It also increases circulation throughout the body, enhances immune system function and encourages tissue repair.
These yoga classes do feel more challenging because of the added heat. We encourage you to pace yourself and determine the intensity that works best for you. Please see our in-depth class styles for details on specific temperatures and intensities during each class.
- How is Hot Dog Yoga different to Bikram?
Bikram has a rigid structure with a set of 26 yoga poses and 2 breathing exercises in 90 minutes. These are done in a room heated to approximately 40 degrees.
At Hot Dog Yoga, our classes are mostly 60 minutes (45 minute express classes during lunch times) in a room mostly heated between 28-35 degrees (with some non-heated classes). Most importantly each class you attend will be different and will draw on the teacher’s style and training. Also, unlike Bikram, a Vinyasa style practice focuses on all over body strength and stretch including a lot of upper body work in the flow from standing to the floor and back up again.
